You finally pressed post, and… CRICKETS. It’s frustrating when your LinkedIn posts fizzle without any comments or likes.
It’s even worse knowing a few small tweaks could have made that post into a hit.
As a LinkedIn copywriter, I help business owners create engaging content that resonates with their target audience.
Here are 5 things you can do to get your audience hooked 👇
1- Know Your Audience:
A well-crafted LinkedIn content strategy starts by making your target audience the centrepiece of your content. To do that, you need to know exactly who you’re talking to.
Ask yourself:
- What problem do you solve?
- Who are you solving it for?
- Why should they choose you?
Use your LinkedIn analytics to discover your audience’s demographics and what content resonates most. Then, check your comments section to understand their feelings, frustrations, and desires.
Show them you get it—you know exactly how they feel right now.
2. Shed the Me-Mindset
Does your content use “I” or “we” more than “you”? If so, your audience might feel like you’re talking at them rather than with them—and nobody likes that.
Make your reader the star. For example, instead of saying, “We offer solutions,” try, “Discover your new path with our solutions.”
Notice the difference? When you speak directly to your audience, you immediately draw them in.
3. Write for Connection
Social media is all about feeling connected.
Trends, humour, and stories about common experiences resonate with your audience and keep them hooked till the end.
For example, I once shared that I couldn’t get on a video call without my chapstick handy.
It turns out I’m not the only one. Relatable content creates genuine connections and the feeling that “we’re all in this together.”
4. Be a Resource
Is your content helpful? Does it offer an actionable takeaway?
Remember, we’re past the days of lengthy tutorials—people want quick, easy wins.
Keep your advice simple and actionable. For instance, share a quick checklist or a tool that’s revolutionised your workflow.
Helpful content keeps your audience coming back.
5. Start a Conversation
We’re on social media to connect and engage, so start a conversation that encourages interaction.
Make sure your post has a clear call to action, like “What’s your go-to industry hack? Drop it in the comments!”
This way, there’s no confusion about what to do next.
3 Ways to Write Posts Your Audience Will Actually Want to Read
Now that you know the building blocks of engaging LinkedIn posts, let’s look at ways to make your content stand out.
1. Write the ‘Inverse Post’: Start with your audience’s problem or question, and then reveal how your product, services, or experiences can solve it. It’s an inverse way to promote without overtly selling.
2. The ‘How I Did It’ Post: Instead of a blatant brag post, share a challenge you faced and illustrate how you overcame it. Include the lessons you learned, inspiring others and subtly showcasing your achievements.
3. The ‘Industry Deep Dive’: Become a trusted resource by sharing insights on industry trends, making them easy to understand and relevant for your audience.
